DIY: Sisterhood of The Traveling ......

So about two weeks ago my good friend Deanna moved to Hawaii, leaving my other good friend Tracy and I behind =( but she has good reasons to go to Hawaii. I met Tracy in my high school orientation and we clicked ever since. I met Deanna at Tracy's birthday party and we clicked ever since (plus we lived sooooooo close by! Like 4 blocks away!). We all became so so so so close like SISTERS. I love 'em =)

So the day before she left (Aug. 17) we got together and made our "Sisterhood of The Traveling Scrapbook." Similar to the movie "Sisterhood of the traveling Pants," we each get the Scrapbook, add whatever we want (pictures, poems, diary entries, quotes, WHATEVER YOU LIKE!), then send it off to the next person. That way we stay in touch in a more PERSONAL manner. Facebook, AIM, Myspace, E-mail, phone calls, is all so IMPERSONAL. I mean, we still do all those things, too, but this Scrapbook is a way of having something shared and personal. You get me?!

So the materials you need are really up to you. You can do a traveling pants thing instead of a Scrapbook, or a video camera, or whatever! For our Scrapbook, though, we used a plain scrapbook from Michael's Craft store, glue sticks, stickers, scrapbook paper, pictures of us, magazine quotes and pictures...so far. We have our whole Sophomore year in College to fill it up with randomness of things! Here are the pictures of us just starting to get it decorated:

So that's our cover of the Scrapbook. I pasted on a cute little poem/story I found online by Laurel Atherton. It was originally titled, "The Story of Two Very Different Sisters" but then I changed it and modified the poem into "The Story of Three Very Different Sisters." I love it! Here it is:

The Story of Three Very
Different Sisters

Two live here, one lives there. One is a little taller than the others. Three different colors of hair, three different outlooks on life, three very different views from their windows. All three have different tomorrows ahead. Each is unique in so many ways. Each has her own story, with all the busy things going on in the present. Each has a separate destination and a distinctly different path to get there. But...

For all the things that might be different and unique about them... these three sisters will always share so much. They will always be the best of family and friends, entwined together, through all the days of their lives. Their love will always be very special: gentle and joyful when it can be, strong and giving when it needs to be, reminding them, no matter how different their stories turn out... they share the incredibly precious gift of being "sisters." And when you think of some of the best things this world has to offer, a blessing like that is really... what it's all about.

~Laurel Atherton

I also added a poem by Maya Angelou called, "Phenomenal Woman." Google it! It's so empowering. I read it when I'm down, and happy too, and gives me so much pride, strength, and empowerment.

If you guys have any other ideas of a traveling ____(whatever)____ comment me and tell me! I would love to know what other ideas are out there that can be shared in this TRAVELING manner =)
